Tips for Restoring an Overgrown Garden

Spread the love

If you’ve just moved into a new home that’s been vacant for some time, you will probably find that your new garden is quite overgrown, with plants, weeds, grass and even trees getting out of control. If you’ve preparing yourself for the task of getting to grips with your new garden and restoring it to a state of beauty, here are some ideas.

Tree services

If you have a large garden, you may well have some small trees growing in it. Many trees do take a lot of caring for, so if your new garden has been left to fend for itself for quite some time, your trees will probably be the first things that you need to take care of. If there are too many trees, or they’re simply not to your liking, the best thing to do is to call a tree removals service to safely remove and dispose of them. If you’re worried about unsightly tree stumps, many tree removals companies will be able to tidy or completely remove them.

If you want to keep your trees but at a more manageable size, the best option would be to prune them. This is where excess branches are removed from an overgrown tree in order to reduce its size and improve its appearance. If you’re not experienced, jobs such as these are best left to a professional, as they will know exactly how much to cut whilst still allowing the tree to grow again.

Weeds

Weeds are a common nuisance in many gardens, and if yours is severely overgrown, you’ve probably got more weeds than you’d like to think about. Before you start over exerting yourself tugging them up from the roots, it might be a good idea to invest in some weed killing solution or spray. These are available at many hardware stores and garden centres, and usually at a reasonable price. Spraying the weeds in your garden with such solutions will cause them to die rapidly, making it easier for you to pull them up and remove them.

Lawns

If your lawn is really overgrown, a simple once over with a lawnmower probably won’t do the trick. Instead, use a strimmer or other handheld device first in order to get the length to a manageable size that is easy to cut. It can be a time consuming job, especially if you have a big lawn – so make sure you choose a day that has good weather, and work as a team if possible.
